The Earth Science Remote Sensing (ESRS) Lab is proud to announce that its director, Dr. Mohamed Sultan, has been awarded the 2023 Kuwait Prize in Applied Sciences (Hydrology) by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
This prestigious recognition honors Dr. Sultan’s decades-long contributions to the field of hydrology, particularly his innovative work in applying satellite remote sensing and geospatial analysis to understand groundwater systems in arid and data-scarce regions. His work has had a far-reaching impact on water resource management and environmental sustainability in the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.
Established in 1979, the Kuwait Prize is among the most distinguished scientific awards in the Arab world. It recognizes outstanding Arab scholars whose work has significantly advanced knowledge and practice in their respective fields. The award rotates across five scientific areas: Fundamental Sciences, Applied Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences, Arts and Literature, and Emerging Interdisciplinary Sciences.
In a formal letter to Western Michigan University President Dr. Edward Montgomery, KFAS expressed its congratulations and emphasized the importance of Dr. Sultan’s achievements to the global scientific community.
We in the ESRS Lab celebrate this tremendous honor and extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Sultan for his remarkable and ongoing contributions to the field of hydrologic sciences.
