The area of interest is Jazan City and surroundings, Jazan Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The old city of Jazan is located on a ~3-4 km2 salt dome raised ~50 m above the surrounding area. In the preliminary study of this project, we examined geophysical (gravity and passive seismic), remote sensing (radar and optical images), digital elevation data (DEMS) over the salt dome outcrop and surroundings in search of criteria to be used to identify the presence of other salt domes. The Jazan city surface salt dome and Farasan Islands subsurface salt domes were used as test sites to identify criteria by which exposed (similar to Jazan salt dome) and near-surface domes (similar to Farsan salt dome) can be located in surrounding areas.
